Wired Network Access

IMPORTANT NOTICE:

Virus protection is required on any computer connecting to the BYU campus network. For further information refer to the Software Distribution product page.

What does this product do?

This product provides a connection to the campus intranet and the internet.

Note: All network connections from on-campus housing will be terminated and reset each Monday at 4:00 am. Individuals will be required to re-authenticate the next time they attempt to use the network or internet.

How can I access this product?

Office Access For Employees

For instructions, contact your CSR or TSR.

Public Access

To access the network, you must first authenticate (login) from a Web browser using your Net ID and password. Authentication is required weekly in on-campus housing. For public ports, authentication is required once daily and each time you connect from a different location. To authenticate, open a Web browser to http://www.byu.edu. You will be redirected to an authentication screen, and prompted to enter your Net ID and password. Public ports are available in the WSC, HBLL, TNRB and ESC.

Note: Static IP addresses and dynamic DNS are unavailable in on-campus housing (inbound TCP/IP connections from off-campus).

What are the options and costs?

Office Access For Employees

  • Web Filtering - A Web Filtering proxy server is available for department use. For instructions on using the proxy server, refer to the Web Filtering product page.
  • For pricing, refer to the links in the left sidebar.

There is no charge for public access. Some on-campus housing units have additional jacks that can be activated for a one time fee. Contact the Office of IT to request these changes.

  • Move data port - $25.50
  • Additional data port - $50.00
