[11/06/2007] -- The sudden brightening of an otherwise mundane comet is presenting backyard sky gazers with a rare opportunity: The chance to see the tail of a comet with the unaided eye. Comet Holmes - originally discovered in 1892 by astronomer Edwin Holmes - now appears as large from Earth as our Sun - more than a million km in diameter.
A newly discovered geological phenomenon on Mars could mean that shallow puddles of surface water - and possibly even life - could exist there, according to a new study. University of Arizona geologists turned their eye on some of Mars' more chaotic terrains: debris flows, surface ice in strange places, large pieces of rock shooting out of the crust, and even mud volcanoes.
"Gordo", the largest skeleton ever to be displayed in Canada has re-emerged from the dust - literally. Dr. David Evans, Associate Curator of Vertebrate Palaeontology for Royal Ontario Museum, chanced upon the rare find amidst the Royal Ontario Museum's own collections. "This is a fascinating and somewhat humorous story," said the ROM's Director and CEO William Thorsell.
