• Served as Elected Mayor of Savannah for 4 years from 2004 to 2007 making great strides in achieving Neighborhood Empowerment and Economic Development
• Served in the U.S. Naval Reserve for six years
• Began his career more than 30 years ago in anti-poverty programs at EOA and Model Cities in Savannah
• Elected for two terms representing the second district on City Council beginning in 1983
• Left City Council in 1988 to begin ten years of leadership of the Youth Futures Authority dedicated to improving the lives of children and their families in Chatham County.
• Represented the Second District on the School Board from 1999-2002

A respected and nationally recognized PROFESSIONAL in his field

• College professor who earned his MSW from Clark Atlanta University and Ph.D. from the Heller School of Social Policy and Management at Brandeis University
• Established the undergraduate program of Social Work at Savannah State in 1971, that won national accreditation in 1984.
• Returned to the university as Dean of the College of Liberal Arts after 10 years leadership of the Youth Futures Authority
• Served on numerous boards, advisory councils and study groups at the state and national level in recognition of his achievements in community and youth development.
