Support - Daylight Savings Time

Beginning in 2007, Daylight Saving Time has been extended one month requiring clocks to be set ahead on March 11 and back on November 4. The new rules for most of the United States will go into effect at 2 a.m. on the second Sunday in March and end at 2 a.m. on the first Sunday of November. These changes are a result of the Energy Policy Act of 2005, an effort to reduce the nation’s energy use.

What This Means: The Office of Information Technology has been working diligently to get all necessary preparations and changes done in time for the March 11th deadline. Your personal computer should be automatically updated for the change. While the focus is on taking all precautions, there may be some service interruptions and your patience and understanding is greatly appreciated. If you have any questions regarding this change, please contact the Office of IT Service Desk at 801 422-4000.

The chart below has information for multiple devices or systems, and how to identify if they need to be updated. Follow the instructions to determine if you need to update your device. If you have other date related equipment, please contact your service provider or vender for assistance.

Premium Email Calendaring

The Office of Information Technology has updated all Premium Email accounts to accommodate the new Daylight Saving Time schedule. This update should eliminate the need for individual users to run Microsoft’s Time Zone Update Tool. Users are encouraged, however, to review all their appointments that occur between March 11th and April 1st and between October 20th and November 4th 2007 to ensure their accuracy.

Some appointment times may need to be adjusted manually, especially if the appointment owner or those invited had installed the TZ update previously, while others had not. This appears to have caused synchronization problems that are reflected in appointments displaying incorrectly after the global update.
