 Commonwealth Games 400 metres champion Christine Ohuruogu has revealed she would try to switch nationalities to fulfil her dream of competing at the Olympic Games.
The 23-year-old Briton has just completed a one-year suspension for
missing three drugs tests and has already been included in the Great
Britain team for the World Championships in Osaka later this month.
But she may not be able to take part in the Olympics because British
Olympic Association regulations prohibit any athlete who has served a
drugs-related ban from representing the team at the Games.
Ohuruogu hopes to win her appeal against that ruling but realises
she may have to represent another country to compete in her home
Olympics at London 2012.
"I would probably just run for another country," she said. The
Olympics is what you train for.
"It would change my whole outlook if the appeal failed. Could I
change countries? I don't know.
"I haven't really given it any serious thought. Maybe I'll have to
start thinking.
"The Olympics are the pinnacle of your athletic career. The World
Championships come every two years but it's not quite the same."
