In Finland ministries are in charge of monitoring, preparing and defining Finland’s position within their sphere of operations in EU issues.
The Ministry of Finance prepares Finland’s contribution to EU economic policy coordination and the economic policies of the euro area. The Ministry takes part in the discharge procedure associated with preparing and implementing the EU budget and preparation of the regulation of the financial markets by the EU and various international organizations. The Ministry represents Finland in preparing EU taxation and customs issues, in monitoring EU financial administration and in action to combat abuse of EU financial benefits, and in preparing the conditions of employment for personnel in EU organs. Cooperation to develop administration is also carried out on the EU level.
The majority of issues that come under the responsibility of the Ministry of Finance are dealt with by the Ecofin Council made up of EU Ministers of Finance.
