Using the Library

The State Library of New South Wales provides access to information and collections in two separate reading rooms.

The State Reference Library Reading Room, located in the Macquarie Street Wing, contains a comprehensive and diverse collection of Australian and international research material including printed books, journals, government reports, statistics, audio-visual material and electronic resources. Located within the State Reference Library are a number of specialist services including the Legal Information Access Centre, the Health Information Service and the Family History Service.

The Mitchell Library Reading Room, located in the historic Mitchell Wing, contains the internationally renowned research collections relating to Australia and the south-west Pacific, with special emphasis on the state of New South Wales. The collections include printed books, ephemera, journals and original materials including pictures, manuscripts and maps. Located within the Mitchell Library Reading Room are a number of specialist collections including the Sir William Dixson Research Library.
