Group Visits


A group of visitors enjoying a guided tour of the Library

Who can visit?

 

The National Library of Wales welcomes groups of all kinds to visit and to use our varied services.

                       

We kindly ask groups to inform us of their visit beforehand.

 

Many of our organised visits are by

 

  • local history societies
  • family history societies
  • schools
  • voluntary groups
  • clubs and associations

Guided tours

 

Groups may also wish to organise tours of the building in advance.

 

All tours are free of charge and general tours last approximately an hour and a half.

 

We can, however, organise tours to suit your requirements.

 

If you have any specific interest in items from the Library’s collections please tell us when organising your visit.

 

Tours start from the Library Shop on the ground floor, next to the reception.

 

 

What will we see?

 

Our experienced staff will give a general introduction to the

           

  • Library’s history
    • its collections 
    • its building

     

     

    Languages

     

    Tours can be conducted in Welsh or English.

     

    A brief written introduction to the Library is available in German, Spanish and French from the Library’s reception desk.

    Accessibility

     

    All areas visited during the tour are accessible to wheel-chair users. Lifts are available to reach the Library’s 3 floors.

     

    The tour does involve walking around the building and standing for periods of time.

     

    Please advise us of any specific requirements you may have which could affect your enjoyment of the tour.

     

    Bags (including hand-bags) and coats are not allowed on the tour. Please leave bags and coats in the lockers on the ground floor or the first floor. You will need a £1 coin as a deposit.

     

    We kindly ask you not to use your camera inside the Library’s building at any time. Please leave it in one of our lockers that are at your disposal.

     

    Guided tours can be organised during the day, from 9.45am onwards, or early evening.

     

     

    Tour Parties

     

    The Library does not charge a fee for conducting tours for prearranged tour parties, but welcomes any donations to help the work of the Library.

     

    Please remember that tours must be arranged before hand to ensure that parking and guides are available.

     

    Pre-arranged tours must include a minimum number of 12 people. Smaller groups may arrange to join the open tours on Mondays at 11am.
