All persons wishing to publish material which is in the Library’s collection will need to seek the Library’s permission before publication.
Publication includes material to be published in books, magazines, journals and brochures. It also includes the web (even if the images are already available on the Library’s own website) and for broadcast on television, webcasting and any other medium.
For those wishing to use images, pictorial or otherwise, from the Library’s collections there are 2 steps to be taken.
Contact the enquiries team for a form to have a digital copy made of the image. All NLW material must have been digitally copied by the National Library itself. The Library does not allow photocopies or home copying of material in its collection.
You will be sent an enquiries reprographic form to complete with details of the image you wish to have copied and the medium in which you wish it to be supplied.
The Library does not own the copyright of all material in The National Library of Wales’ collections. You will need to confirm whether the material you wish to have copied is owned by The National Library of Wales or by another person or estate. The National Library does not charge copyright fees, but another copyright owner may do so.
The onus is on users to confirm the copyright ownership of material they wish to publish.
Once you have received the image from the Library, you may wish to use and publish it. Consent must be given by the officer at the Access and Marketing office, please fill in the publishing consent form and send it to him.
