Filming at The National Library of Wales

Filming Crew at North Reading Room

The National Library of Wales welcomes television crews. However, the nature of our collections means we have to take into consideration questions of copyright, conservation and security and so cannot always guarantee access to all our collections.

How can The National Library of Wales be at your service?

Research

To make full use of The National Library's collections why not become a reader?

Membership is free and will give you access to our collections of over:

  • over 4 million books, periodicals and newspapers
  • over 1 million maps
  • 700,000 photographs
  • The Welsh Political Archive collection
  • poets and authors' letters
  • over 100,000 hours of Welsh television and radio footage
  • film archive

It's worth remembering also that although we specialise in Welsh and Celtic materials, those aren't our only collections. The National Library of Wales has information on a wide range of subjects.

To become a member of the Library you need to show 2 documents as proof of identification and be over 16 years of age. You must also come in person to collect your Reader's Card. More information can be seen in our ‘Reading at NLW’ section.

NLW Collections

To save yourself some research time, why not go to our online collection of paintings and works of art? By visiting the Digital Mirror, you can tap into over 4,000 images from our collections online with new items added constantly. But remember to contact the Library before making use of any images.

The Library as a location

The Library's magnificent building with its beautiful view of Aberystwyth and Cardigan Bay below is an excellent film location. The site and building are ideal for interviews in a dignified or scholarly setting.

The Gregynog Gallery

The Gregynog Gallery on the first floor (Level 1) has held exhibitions by some of Wales' most prominent artists including Kyffin Williams, Claudia Williams and Will Roberts and is one of Wales' prime exhibition spaces.

The Gregynog Gallery is not only a beautiful and open space but its constant exhibitions are a ready subject matter for art programmes or for productions needing an artistic feel to an interview or item.
