We endeavour to protect items from the Library’s collections by implementing conservation techniques. The majority of these objects are organic in nature, but despite the fact that they contain elements that decay, it is possible to slow down this deterioration and to extend the lifespan of our treasures for future generations.
In order to make the best use of resources, the Library has a Collection Care Policy that prioritises the work and ensures that the appropriate techniques and best environmental conditions are used to safeguard our artefacts.
Collection Care consists of the following:
This is where the most valuable and fragile books and manuscripts are repaired using traditional and modern methods.
It is of course better to prevent damage and deterioration in the first place, therefore the Library emphasizes preventive conservation techniques in order to protect its collections.
This is the unit that sorts and stores the thousands of items that are added regularly to the Library’s collections.
This unit offers conservation treatment for the Library’s paintings collection.
Anyone that uses the collection can adversely affect the condition of the items. The Library’s Collection Care Policy denotes ways of avoiding disasters and minor damage through promoting handling and storage guidelines – guidelines that could also be of benefit to people who collect and keep valuable objects in their own homes.
