Internships
Gotham Gazette Internships
Gotham Gazette offers interns a practical work environment to learn about journalism, politics, and non-profit organizations on a nationally recognized Web site. A minimum of 5 hours per week is required. We can take full-time interns in the summer. We are willing to work with teachers, professors and interested students to provide a for-credit internship experience. Unfortunately, we are generally unable to pay our interns. However, small stipends are available under certain circumstances and for published work. Inquire for details.
Qualifications: Writing, editing, research, interviewing and phone skills relevant. Basic computer proficiency important. Advanced facility with computers noteworthy. Foreign language fluency desired. Interest in New York City politics, policy and civic life necessary.
We are looking for interns to work in the following areas:
City Government - attend hearings and meetings of the New York City Council, research issues and legislation, and help write articles.
The Citizen - select and translate articles from New York City's foreign-language newspapers, and write original articles about immigrants and immigrant communities. Complete fluency in both English and at least one other language needed.
Community Gazettes - assist the editors in putting together an interactive newspaper that serves every neighborhood in the city.
Web Development - help build content-management tools. Candidates should have prior experience. This is not a data entry position: it provides the opportunity to develop serious, server-side applications for an award-winning website.
Photography - help us make the site more visually appealing. Illustrators are welcome as well.
