Earth Day

Sunday, April 22 is Earth Day. To mark the 37th annual environmental festival, Mayor Michael Bloomberg will unveil his NYC2030 plan for a more sustainable – read environmentally friendly – city. But for New Yorkers who don’t want to spend a spring weekend listening to a politician, there are lots of other green activities on tap.

Earth Fair Outside – outside Grand Central Station – on Friday and Saturday will feature free music along with exhibits sponsored by earth friendly organizations.

Prospect Park will present a weekend of activities, including Saturday’s effort to spruce up the trees and paths along the park’s Long Meadow. And on Sunday afternoon, the park will offer music, arts, crafts and more in honor of the fifth anniversary of its Audubon Center and the birthdays of John James Audubon and Frederick Law Olmsted.

Across the river, Central Park will observe Earth Day on Sunday with a celebration at the Great Hill and the Children's Glade. It will include planting and mulching projects, demonstrations, tours, and family entertainment.
