Using Amazon Payments | Declines | Updating a Card

Using Amazon Payments

Amazon Payments lets you use the same credit card you have on file with Amazon.com to pay for items you buy from others.

Orders that Use Payments

When you buy a used or collectible item at Amazon Marketplace or from an Amazon Merchant, you can pay via Amazon Payments. All third-party sellers on our Auctions and Amazon Marketplace platforms must be registered for Payments, and Payments is the only accepted payment method for all Auctions and Marketplace transactions.

When using Amazon Payments for a Marketplace or Merchant transaction, you may use a credit card or an Amazon.com gift certificate. Amazon Payments does not support payment by check, money order, or PayPal.

Amazon Payments Safety

  • Amazon Payments transactions for Amazon Marketplace and Auctions are covered up to $2,500 by our Amazon.com A-to-z Guarantee. In addition, most Amazon Merchant orders, with some exceptions, use Payments and are covered under our Guarantee terms. For those exceptions and more information about our terms of coverage, please take a moment to review the Amazon.com A-to-z Guarantee.
  • Amazon Payments transfers the amount you indicate but never passes along your full credit card information. Such credit card information is kept strictly confidential, just between you and Amazon.com. Please note that if you order from one of a few select merchants, we will provide the merchant with the last four or five digits of your credit card number for identification purposes.

Convenience

  • You can issue 1-Click payments to Amazon Marketplace sellers, but not to Amazon Merchants. Note: 1-Click payments are immediate for these orders. You do not have 90 minutes to cancel your order.
  • You can see a record of all your Amazon Payments transactions online. For Amazon Merchant or Marketplace buyers, click the Your Account button in the upper right corner of your screen. Auctions buyers should visit the Your Account section of our Auctions web site and click to "View all recent purchases made online with Amazon Payments."

Note: Due to the slightly different nature of our Amazon Marketplace Web site, it is not possible to enter the last 5 digits of your credit card and telephone us with your full credit card information.

Credit Card Declines

If we are unable to charge your card successfully for an Amazon Marketplace order, we will send an e-mail notification with a link to resubmit payment, at which time you can update your payment information or authorize another attempt to charge. We cannot re-try your credit card for you. If payment is unsuccessful more than once, or the order is more than 3 days old, the order will be canceled. If this occurs, please feel free to return to our store to place another order.

At this time, we cannot accept resubmitted payments on declined Merchant orders.

Updating a Card

If payment is successful, your card will be charged at the time of purchase. We have no means by which to alter the credit card for an Amazon Merchant or Marketplace order after it has been submitted. To cancel an order, you will need to contact your seller to make arrangements. Seller contact information is available through Your Account.

If you would simply like to update a credit card on your account, you'll find our Help page instructions under Adding & Deleting Credit Cards.
