he Real ID Act, approved by boh houses of Congress and awaiting President George W. Bush's signature, will make it more difficult for illegal immigrants to obtain official identification that would enable them to board an airplane, fill out tax forms or open a bank account. (Washington Post) Though it is not yet law, fake "Real ID" cards are already out in the market (Sing Tao Daily).

An immigrant detention center near Kennedy Airport will be closed at the end of June to save money, a federal official said. It costs $225 a day to detain each person there, compared with an average of $53 in county jails in Batavia, N.Y., and Elizabeth, N.J., where the immigrants will be sent instead. (Newsday)
