Youth and Student Pages
In university or college, school or a youth group? These pages are for you!
Have you got what it takes to defend Human Rights?
It all started with Young people! Peter Benenson was inspired to set up Amnesty after reading about two Portuguese students who were arrested for making a "Toast to Freedom".
Today, young people and students are still facing human rights abuses all over the world: recent research by Amnesty International indicates that in over 70 countries students and young people have suffered human rights abuses, including torture, unlawful killings and discrimination.
What's it all about?
Who We Are - The Organisation
Over the last 40 years Amnesty International has grown into the largest Human Rights Organisation in the world. We have more than 1.5 million members worldwide, with sections in more than 72 Countries. We are independent of all governments and. our beliefs are that Human Rights are for everyone!
What can I do? Youth and Student groups are essential in Amnesty International?s campaigning. Our groups and members are responsible for writing hundreds of letters on behalf of prisoners of conscience and to campaign for human rights worldwide
They are also responsible for raising awareness about Amnesty's work by holding fun events such as concerts and demonstrations as well as raising money for our Organisation.
If you are you between the ages of 11-18, you can become part of our Student and Youth Network. If you are in college or university then you can join our Student Action Network.
