Israel battles to control strategic base, blasts border bridge in north
Israeli warplanes and artillery pounded Hezbollah positions today in an attempt to gain command of strategic high ground and disrupt guerrilla rocket attacks across. In far north Lebanon, Israeli jets blasted a key bridge to Syria, killing at least 12 people.

Travelers adapt locally; most are tolerant of rule limiting carry-on liquids
Ryan Kalin arrived at Detroit Metropolitan Airport yesterday after a business trip to Toledo to discover that most of his toiletries kit would have to go in the trash before he could board his flight home to Minnesota. Like travelers across the country yesterday, Mr. Kalin, of North St. Paul, was caught by new federal restrictions on carrying most liquids into aircraft cabins.
