June 13th, 2006 - Two mining companies, U.S.-based Drummond Coal Company and Swiss-based Glencore International, are now the subject of strikes by aggrieved workers. Gold Miners under attack in Bolivar

May 21, 2006 -   The Colombian Army has been carrying out joint maneuvers with paramilitaray forces in the gold-mining regions in the south of Bolivar department. These maneuvers are designed to force small-scale miners off their lands and make them available to foreign mining companies, among which are Canadian, English and South African enterprises. Protest Repression in Cauca

May 19th, 2006 - The Colombia Support Network (CSN) is outraged to learn of the repressive actions of the Colombian armed forces and police against indigenous peoples and peasants in  Cauca province.These people were demonstrating peacefully for their right to life. The Uribe administration responded by sending troops and police who murdered one indigenous representative, injured dozens of others  and detained  more than 25 leaders of the peaceful demonstration. Prosecutors to Blame Victims - San Jose

The Peace Community of San Jose de Apartadó reports that prosecutors entered the Villiage on November 12th, acting in an aggressive and disrespectful manner, photographing people and houses without explanation. A Colombian Army General recently told international repersentatives that prosecutors were nearing the completion of their investigation and that evidence pointed to guerilla responsibility for the recent massacre (see report below) of community leaders.
