Oregon

The Cascades of the Columbia (M, I) The great rapids that were the Cascades of the Columbia are now covered by the backwater behind Bonneville Dam. The sites of the upper blockhouse (Fort Lugenbeel) and middle blockhouse (Fort Rains) are marked by interpretive signs one mile east of Bonneville Dam and 1/4 mile east of the Bridge of the Gods, respectively, along State Hwy 14. The city of Stevenson, five miles further to the east along State Hwy 14, is the location of the new Columbia River Interpretive Center, which has a number of displays on the history of the area. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has an information display and an interpretive trail that leads through the site of the military post at the Lower Cascades (Fort Cascades 1855-1862), at the old landing below the rapids. Parking is located on the sportsman access road about 1.5 miles west of Bonneville Dam just off Hwy 14.

Fort Dalles (B, I) This Army post was established as a ten square mile reservation in 1850, but later reduced to a more reasonable one square mile. The post remained active through the Civil War, but was abandoned by the Army in 1868. Only the surgeon's quarters, a uniquely ornate example of military architecture, remains and is presently a museum. The building is located south of downtown The Dalles at the intersection of 15th Street and Garrison Street.

Fort Henrietta (x) The site of the supply camp of the Oregon volunteers during 1855-1856 is unmarked, but was at the junction of the Umatilla River and Butter Creek, near the present day intersection of Interstate 84 and State Hwy 207 south of Hermiston, Oregon.

Grande Rhonde Battlefield (M) The attack on the mixed Cayuse, Walla Walla, Palouse, and Nez Perce village on the Grande Rhonde by Colonel Benjamin Shaw's Washington volunteers occurred on the morning of July 17, 1856. A marker is at the intersection of Couch Lane and Mount Glen Road, 0.5 miles north of Riverside Park, outside La Grande, Oregon.
