We are always looking for submissions!

We will review and publish any and all quality articles provided by our readers. At a future date we will begin publishing the Kentucky Highlands Journal on a quarterly basis. The very best submissions will be published in the journal. This is an excellent opportunity for both aspiring and professional writers to publish.

We accept articles on all subjects relating to the Kentucky Highlands including:

Biography of Interesting Individuals (Not Necessarily Famous)

Histories of Important Events and Locations

Family Histories

Highland Life and Folklore

Poetry and Stories Dealing With Highland Subjects

Interviews with Elder Highlanders                       

How-To Articles on Disappearing Skills and Products

The Future of the Highlands

Ways to Improve Live In the Highlands

Articles About Important Events

Opinion Articles

Interesting Photographs

Anything Else That Might Be Of Interest to Our Readership

Also, include and photographs that will help explain and tell your story.

Submission Guide and Rules

We publish articles and stories that explain the culture of Eastern Kentucky. Any of the topics listed above meet these requirements.

 Rules:

1. All submissions should be submitted in either Microsoft Word format or as a Text (.txt) document. Photographs should be sent in the JPEG (.jpg) format. Please include a brief description of the photo in the body of the email.  
2. Only one submission at a time.
3. Please include a brief description yourself and a photo. Neither of these are requirements but readers enjoy knowing a little about the author.
4. We ask for the exclusive electronic rights to your manuscript for up to 90 days after the publication date. After 90 days we will take it offline at the author’s request.
5. We ask for North America First Print Rights. Currently we are not publishing articles in print format. As a general rule we will wave this right if the author contacts us.
6. If your article is accepted for the website we will provide you with our standard publication contract. We need this returned to us in order publish your work.
7. Finally, at present we do not pay for articles. This is just a great opportunity to get published and to contribute to the community.
