ESPN GameDay at ASU
September 30-October 1
The ESPN GameDay crew that will be in town for college football showdown between No. 14/15 Arizona State and No. 1/1 USC has announced its location and segment schedule for this weekend.
The College GameDay Built by The Home Depot set will be placed at the northeast corner of Rio Salado Drive and Packard Drive in ASU's Lot 59. Picturesque Sun Devil Stadium and A Mountain will be displayed right behind the set. The GameDay crew of Chris Fowler, Lee Corso and Kirk Herbstreit will cover all the angles in college football with game previews, exclusive interviews, analysis, behind-the-scenes features and daring predictions, in addition to covering the ASU-USC matchup. Former Heisman Trophy winner Desmond Howard will also be on set doing segments for ESPNews.
Tentative schedule of events - fans are encouraged and invited to attend:
Friday, September 30:
- 1:40 pm - Desmond Howard will do a live segment for ESPNews
- 2:10 pm - Lee Corso will do a live segment for ESPNews
- 2:25 pm - (approx) Chris, Lee and Kirk will tape a segment for the 6 pm and 11 pm SportsCenter
Saturday, October 1:
- 7:30 - 9:00 am - College GameDay live
- 9:15 am - Tape segments for use in Scoreboard shows that afternoon
- 12:00 pm - Live segments for the College Scoreboard show
- 4:00 pm - Live segments for the early SportsCenter and College Scoreboard Pregame show
- 6:15 pm (approx) - Live segments at halftime of Notre Dame/Purdue
- 7:45 pm (approx) - Live and taped segments for late SportsCenter and College Scoreboard final

Alumni celebrate Oct. 1 USC game with Sparky’s Touchdown Tailgate

ASU Alumni Association presents “Sparky’s Touchdown Tailgate.”
The fun starts two hours prior to game time on the southeast lawn of Wells Fargo Arena. Get fired up with tunes from the ASU marching band, watch the antics of Sparky and the cheer squad, and hear what Vice President for Athletics Lisa Love and football coaching legend Frank Kush have to say about the game. A tailgate feast and a variety of beverages will be available to participants Tickets to the event are $10 in advance for dues-paying alumni association members, and $12 for non-members; at the door, tickets will be $15.

People have long debated what separates humans from other animal life forms. How different are we, really, and what accounts for these differences? Respected biochemist and author Charles Pasternak brings a highly original viewpoint to the debate. He believes we are unique in our desire to “quest” for things beyond what is dictated by the basic needs for survival.
Pasternak will discuss his view of man’s unique place in the spectrum of living species, and what makes us human, in this lecture based on his book of the same title.

Marc Gopin, the James H. Laue
Professor of Religion, Diplomacy and Conflict Resolution at George Mason University,
is a leading expert on the role of religion in international relations and
conflict resolution. He has trained thousands of people around the world to
develop peacemaking strategies that integrate religious and cultural perspectives.
He has made numerous appearances on CNN, National Public Radio, and the
Jim Lehrer News Hour, and is the author of three significant books on
religion and conflict. Dr. Gopin argues that it is possible to reduce
violent conflicts by incorporating the best moral practices each world
religion has to offer into public policy. He recently returned from Syria
where he participated in what may be the first ever public dialogue on
interreligious understanding in that country. Read
