The Big Bike
Toll Road Rip-off

So the SA National Roads Agency is still refusing to give motorcyclists a break over toll-road charges and this week rolled out a whole raft of bulldust excuses for doing so – or do its members just see bikers as an elitist, no-account group with no voting power worth considering?

Wouldn't surprise me because, if the agency can't see the obvious unfairness of charging two people on two wheels the same as 16 people on four wheels to use the same bit of road, then their brains need servicing.

Several things should be done, right now, for bikers in appreciation for the many thousands of them choosing to use two instead of four wheels and to encourage other commuters to do the same:

  • Allow FREE use of toll roads.
  • Slash or abolish annual bike licence fees.
  • Supply more inner-city, free parking for bikes.
  • Reduce the licensing age limit for riders of scooters and small motorcycles to 15.
