In Minnesota, as in most states, the presidential candidate who receives the most popular votes receives all of the state's electoral votes. In effect, Election Day voters cast their ballots, not for a presidential candidate, but for a slate of electors chosen by a political party.
Eight of Minnesota's electors were elected by delegates at each of the DFL's eight congressional district conventions. The two at-large electors were elected by delegates to the state DFL convention.
