Friday, 2 July 2004 EURO stars to be named
The UEFA technical study group, led by UEFA's technical director Andy Roxburgh, will announce the 23 players selected for the UEFA EURO 2004™ All-Star Squad, as well as the winner of the JVC UEFA EURO 2004™ Player of the Tournament, at 11.00 local time on Monday.
Fans have a say French coach Gérard Houllier will join Roxburgh in announcing the All-Star Squad at a conference at the International Media Centre in Lisbon. The introduction of the JVC UEFA EURO 2004™ Player of the Tournament means that for the first time, fans will also have a say in who wins this prestigious accolade. Their voting on euro2004.com, the official tournament website, will be considered when deciding the winner.
Nine votes The player with the most votes cast by fans will have one vote during the UEFA technical study group deliberations after the final on Sunday. Along with Roxburgh and Houllier, the other six members of the group - Roy Hodgson, Anghel Iordanescu, György Mezey, Holger Osieck, Jozef Venglos and Berti Vogts - will also cast one vote each for the Player of the Tournament, taking the total of votes to nine.
Monaco gala The presentation of the JVC UEFA EURO 2004™ Player of the Tournament trophy will be arranged around the UEFA Football Gala in Monaco on 26 August - which heralds the start of the new European season.
Technical report UEFA's technical study group has been attending the UEFA European Championship since 1996 and publishes its findings in a report issued after the end of the tournament. The distinguished group of coaches analyse tactical and technical trends at the EURO final round. The report is used to benefit the European technical sector as a whole. |
