Schmeichel staying at Sporting
Former Manchester United keeper Peter Schmeichel has ended speculation about his future by confirming that he will stay at Sporting Lisbon for another year.
The Danish international, who is in his second season with the Portuguese champions, has decided to exercise his option to extend his contract for a third year. "I wish to end all current speculation about my future and I have informed Sporting that I will be taking up my option year," said the 37-year-old keeper. Schmeichel has not played since injuring a knee in training last October and undergoing surgery. He said his recovery was going well and that he hoped to be back playing soon. "I am fit to train but not yet to play games," he added.
