Press Release:

Orion Announces Availability of a Networked Remote-Test-Drive and Service Diagnostics for the ADViCE In-Circuit Emulators

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

BOSTON, MA, March 10, 1997 -- Orion Instruments, Inc. announces the availability of remote demonstration and service options capability for the Orion/ADViCE line of in-circuit emulators.

It is now possible for customers to log in via the Internet to an Orion/ADViCE emulator and take active control of a live debug session. Taking advantage of the networking capabilities of the Orion/ADViCE emulator, customers will be able to explore the advantages of the MicroVIEW-G advanced GUI from their own PC or workstation. A user loads the MicroVIEW-G software either from disks supplied by Orion or from an ftp site. Once installed, a user can direct connect via the Internet to the specific IP address of the in-circuit emulator located at Orion headquarters.

Going beyond the demo disk concept, Remote-Test-Drive gives the user the ability to actively manage a remote in-circuit emulator from their own desktop. "Customers want to evaluate the look and feel of the user interface," said Jerry Beresh, VP of Sales and Marketing at Orion. "A demo disk provides a limited evaluation experience but it's not possible to realistically simulate an in-circuit emulator session. Taking control of a live system provides that ability."

The MicroVIEW-G emulator control and C level source debugger is hosted by either MS-Windows or UNIX Motif. Using a common GUI across processor types, MicroVIEW-G delivers powerful source level debug features including sophisticated source browsing, local and global variable support, watch windows, stack inspection and more. A non intrusive trace buffer triggered by a 6 event multi level sequencer offers developers the tools to track down elusive real time problems. Ethernet, hi speed RS-232C or GPIB can provide the host-emulator connection.

Orion will use the same concepts of Remote-Test-Drive to soon offer an enhanced service capability for the Orion/ADViCE. Planned for Q2 introduction, Remote-Service will allow Orion technical personnel to connect and take active control of a customer's target emulation system. Seeing exactly what the customer is viewing will extend the ability to troubleshoot a system under test.

Availability and Price

Remote-Test-Drive will be available for customer evaluation purposes by the end of March 1997. Dedicated Orion/ADViCE emulators will be available on-line at that time. Customers requesting Remote-Test-Drive should contact Orion at 800-729-7700 to make arrangements. The ADViCE in-circuit emulator is designed and manufactured by Yokogawa Digital Computer of Japan, the world's largest emulator company. Under an exclusive agreement, Orion markets and supports the ADViCE under the Orion/ADViCE brand name throughout North America and Europe. ADViCE is available for a wide variety of 8, 16 and 32 bit CISC and RISC MPUs and MCUs including those from Fujitsu, Hitachi, Motorola, Mitsubishi, Toshiba and others. Complete Orion/ADViCE systems start at $15,900
