Job industry is experiencing layoffs across industries around the globe. In India, large new-age companies like Swiggy, Ola, Paytm and others have cut down their workforce since January 2024. Here we compile list of India firms that have laid off their employees

Simpl fired around 25% of its workforce


Simpl, a buy now pay later platform fired around 160-170 employees in May 2024. The layoff, as per a MoneyControl report, impacted around 25% of the company’s total employees.

Ola Cabs laid off 200 people in April 2024


The ride-hailing company nearly fired around 10% of its employees in April this year. The layoff impacted 200 employees then and was said to improve ‘profitability’ at Ola Cabs.
Ola Cabs' chief executive Hemant Bakshi also resigned just three months after his appointment.

Cash-strapped Byju’s laid off 500 employees


The ed-tech platform fired 500 or 3% of its total workforce in April 2024. The layoffs then impacted sales, marketing, and teaching roles at the company. According to reports, the employees were fired over phone calls, followed by emails.

Swiggy cut around 400 jobs in January


The online food delivery company reportedly fired around 400 employees earlier this year in January. The move was aimed to improve the company’s finances. Though Swiggy’s food delivery business has been profitable for several quarters, the startup was not profitable at a group level.
Flipkart laid off 1000-1500 employees

In January this year, Walmart-owned Flipkart fired 1,100-1,500 employees, trimming its workforce by 5-7%. As per the Economic Times report, the company had also halted fresh hiring over the past year to manage costs.
Good Glam Group fired about 15% of its workforce

In April 2024, the content to commerce platform - Good Glam Group laid off 150 employees or about 15% of its workforce. The job cuts were then seen as part of a new organisational framework to streamline operations and eliminate redundancies.
PrepLadder, HealtifyMe, Pristyn Care among other Indian firms that cut jobs in 2024
In the ed-tech category, PrepLadder and Scaler also announced job cuts this year. Fintech startups like Wint Health, Lentra and Muvin fired employees, while HealthifyMe and Pristyn Care announced job cuts in the health industry. Fitness startups including Cult.fit and Cure-fit have also announced job cuts. Bolt.Earth, CoRover, Airmeet, WayCool, Licious, BlissClub are other Indian startup companies that cut jobs in 2024.
