Google is testing a new Search Lab experiment for its iOS app that brings Auto Dark mode on iPhones. Spotted by 9to5Google, the feature will allow users to enable dark mode on any website they visit via Google Search.
“Stay in dark mode no matter what website you are on. Turn on dark mode on your device to activate this experience so all the websites you visit match your app’s dark theme,” the Search Lab experiment reads.

Dark mode on Google iOS app will be mostly gray

The Google app on iPhone works like a browser with its own tab system.
Once a user enables the Auto Dark mode as suggested in the experiment, dark theme kicks in for all compatible sites.
As per the report, Dark mode on Google iOS app is mostly gray. Users can switch off the feature using the sun icon in the address bar.

Auto Dark Mode not available for Android phones

The report says that the Auto Dark Mode is only available in the iOS Google app. It is not available for Android phones yet. But it is likely that it may come to Android devices as well.
Google also warns how the “Quality of the conversion to dark mode may vary. Experiment does not apply to websites with an existing dark theme.”
In a related news, Google is working on improving Google Lens' ability to accept additional context for image searches, which could lead to more accurate and relevant results. An APK teardown reported by Android Authority of the Google app v15.22.29.29.arm64 (beta) reveals that users may soon be able to add context to their searches more easily by long-pressing the shutter button and simultaneously providing additional information through voice input.
