Animal testing controversies

Animal testing has been a controversial topic for many years. While some defended it by stating that animals were ‘safe subjects’, others opposed it for they too are living beings capable of feeling hurt.

Mice

One of the most exploited animals when it comes to testing are Mice. Be it product testing, medicine trials, or research on behaviour, mice are made to endure it all.

Rats

Rats too are used extensively in research, especially in medical studies and tests. They are larger than mice, making it easier to perform certain types of surgeries and collect tissue samples.

Rabbits

Rabbits too have often been subject to testing and experiments. The Draize test for example, which assesses eye irritation caused by chemicals, traditionally used rabbits due to their large eyes.

Guinea pigs

Guinea pigs are beloved pets for many but have also been used in research for many years. They have a similar susceptibility to humans for certain infectious diseases, which made them useful for vaccine testing.

Hamsters

Hamsters too have been victims of medical and product testing. Hamsters were earlier widely used in research related to genetics, reproduction, and infectious diseases.

Cats

As weird as it seems, cats too were and in some places continue to be, testing animals. They are mostly used in studies related to hearing and vision.
