NEW DELHI: The results of the Nagaland election have been announced, with S Supongmeren Jamir of the Indian National Congress emerging as the winner, securing 401951 votes. This marks an increase of 50984 votes compared to the previous election.
Dr Chumben Murry of the Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party came in second place, losing by a margin of 50984 votes.
Murry received a total of 350967 votes in this election.

Hayithung Tungoe Lotha, an independent candidate, finished in third place with 6232 votes, a significant decrease of 395719 votes compared to the previous election. The "None of the Above" (NOTA) option received 1646 votes, which is a decrease of 400305 votes from the last election.

The BJP, aligning with the NDPP and NPF, has bolstered its presence, establishing the People's Democratic Alliance, a regional version of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA). In the current electoral scenario, three contenders vie for the sole seat of Nagaland. The NDPP has nominated Dr. Chumben Murry, representing the People's Democratic Alliance, while the INC has put forward S. Supongmeren Jamir as its candidate.

The BJP, aligning with the NDPP and NPF, has bolstered its presence, establishing the People's Democratic Alliance, a regional version of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA). The 2019 Nagaland Lok Sabha election saw Tokheho Yepthemi of the NDPP emerge victorious, defeating the INC candidate, KL Chishi, by a margin of 16,344 votes. Similarly, in 2014, Neiphiu Rio from the NDPP secured the Nagaland Lok Sabha seat. However, he resigned after winning the state Assembly elections to become the Chief Minister of Nagaland. In a by-election held on May 28, 2018, Tokheho Yepthemi, supported by the BJP and NDPP, won the seat by a huge margin of 1,73,746 votes. Yepthemi received 5,94,205 votes, while Apok Jamir from the Naga Peoples Front (NPF) got 4,20,459 votes.
