Murlikant Petkar hails the 'Chandu Champion' release as a perfect tribute to Sushant Singh Rajput

During the COVID-19 lockdown in 2020, Murlikant Petkar was shocked to hear of Sushant Singh Rajput's death on TV. Having spent time together in August 2019, Sushant had pledged to portray Murlikant's life story on screen. Since Sushant's passing, Murlikant has refrained from discussing him extensively but holds their memories dear. Murlikant shared with IndianExpress.com that prior to Kabir Khan, Sushant had begun filming a biopic on his journey as a Paralympian, completing about 10 to 15 percent. Sushant was deeply committed to showcasing Murlikant's resilience, spending considerable time understanding how he triumphed over adversity to win numerous gold medals despite severe injuries. Injured during the 1965 Indo-Pakistan war, Murlikant's military career was cut short by bullet wounds that left one lodged in his spine. Undeterred, he achieved a remarkable feat at the 1972 Summer Paralympics in Germany, setting a world record in the 50-meter freestyle swimming event and excelling in javelin, precision javelin, and slalom events.
