BENGALURU: The fees for engineering and architecture seats in private colleges will go up by 10% in the academic year 2024-25.
Currently, the fee for govt seats is Rs 69,214 in type-1 colleges and Rs 76,905 in type-2 institutions. For ComedK seats, the current fee is Rs 1.7 lakh for type-1 colleges and Rs 2.4 lakh for type-2 ones.
In a private engineering college, 45% of seats are filled through CET and 30% through Comed-K.
Karnataka Unaided Private Engineering Colleges' Association (KUPECA) had sought a fee increase of 15% in both categories, citing the implementation of the 7th Pay Commission recommendations.
Higher education minister MC Sudhakar and medical education minister Sharan Prakash Patil held a meeting with KUPECA on Friday evening. "The private educational institutions had demanded a 15% increase in fees. After a long discussion, a consensus was finally arrived at to increase the fee by 10% from last year's fee," said a press note from the higher education department.
"A GO on the new fees and the consensual agreement will be released shortly," said an official. Last year, there was a 7% fee hike in the fees.
Representatives of medical colleges had a meeting with the govt last week, but it remained inconclusive. While the colleges have sought a 15% increase in the fees this year, the govt has said it will revert. Another meeting is slotted next week.
It may be recalled that the medical education department refused a fee hike in nursing courses for the upcoming year in the meeting held Thursday.

The draft seat matrix for engineering will be released soon. The public will be given seven days to respond to it, after which the final matrix will be released. Those colleges which get approval later will be added in subsequent counselling rounds.
Karnataka Examinations Authority said it would wait for counselling of NEET by the Medical Counseling Committee before commencing CET counselling. "As soon as the dates are announced for NEET counselling, we will have clarity on CET counselling as well. We wanted to hold CET and NEET simultaneously as many top rankers would stand a chance for both. We need to give them the best chance," said H Prasanna, executive director of KEA.
