Moscow's position regarding Crimea, Donbass remains unchanged — Russia's chief negotiator

Face-to-face talks between the delegations of Moscow and Kiev took place in Istanbul on March 29

MOSCOW, March 30. /TASS/. Russia’s principled position regarding Crimea and Donbass remains unchanged, the head of the Russian delegation, Presidential Aide Vladimir Medinsky, said on Rossiya-24 television.

"I will stress that the principled position of our side regarding Crimea and Donbass remains unchanged," he said.

According to Medinsky, the talks and the work continue.

Face-to-face talks between the delegations of Moscow and Kiev took place in Istanbul on Tuesday. Following the meeting, Medinsky said that Russia received written proposals from Ukraine related to an agreement between the parties. He added that after considering these initiatives, Moscow would put forward counter proposals. In addition, he said Moscow is taking two de-escalation steps, one of them by offering to hold a meeting of presidents Vladimir Putin and Vladimir Zelensky simultaneously with the initialing of a peace treaty by Foreign Ministries. The other step is the Russian military will reduce activities toward Kiev and Chernigov.

On February 24, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced a special military operation in response to a request for help by the heads of the Donbass republics. He repeatedly stressed that Moscow doesn’t plan to occupy Ukraine but aims to demilitarize and de-Nazify the country.
