Summary : A commemorative bronze equestrian statue of Robert Cornelis Napier, first Baron Napier of Magdala (1810-90) situated in the centre of the road at the north end of Queen's Gate. The statue was designed in 1891 by Sir Joseph Edgar Boehm, completed by Sir Alfred Gilbert and depicts Napier wearing a tropical uniform, carrying a pair of binoculars in his right hand, standing on a granite pedestal. Originally the statue was placed in front of of Carlton House Gardens but was moved to its original location in 1920. A replica of the statue stands in Calcutta. |
