On a gloriously sunny day, the 1st XI lost out to Kilmarnock by 2 wickets in a closely fought encounter. Skipper Greg McDougall elected to bat on winning the toss and the first six batsmen all got a start but none of them was able to go on to make a substantial score. Angus Tolhurst top-scored with 44 as the team reached 187 for 6 in their 50 overs, a total which should really have been higher. Kilmarnock made a steady start but 62 for 1 became 112 for 5 and the 1st XI looked to be on top but a partnership of 60 between Maritz, who made a match-winning 95, and Qamar turned the game and even a late flurry of wickets was not enough to earn the team the winning points. Peter Hempsey's weekly report describes the action of a game which has undoubtedly dealt the team a real blow in their pursuit of promotion back to the top level of WDCU cricket.

The Glenpark XI would have been happy to bowl out the strong Mearns 2nd XI for 138 at Glenpark, Faheemgul Dinarkhel and Sanjaya Bamunawala both taking 3 wickets, but the home batsmen were quite unable to handle the visiting attack and were bowled out for just 52 in 16.2 overs. Only Vishal Yadav with 29 was able to reach double figures as the side slumped to a disappointing 86 runs defeat.

The 1st XI  are off again on their travels this Saturday, this time to Kilmarnock for what could be a key fixture in their drive for promotion. Their opponents sit one place above them in the league and it follows that a win for the team will do them the power of good. It will be a tight encounter nonetheless as fixtures against Kilmarnock in recent times have been close ones. For those supporters not travelling to Kilmarnock, this game can be watched via the live stream at this link. The match starts at 12 noon.

The Glenpark XI got back on the field last weekend and won comfortably against Glasgow Accies 3rd XI. They are at home again this Saturday with Mearns 2nd XI as their opponents. It is likely that this will be a really tough match as Mearns are undefeated so far this season in the league. Sudeep Chaudhary will captain the side this week and he will need his players to be on their best form if they wish to achieve the victory. This match also starts at 12 noon.

The 1st XI's fixture with Langside at Albert Park was called off without a ball being bowled with Glasgow side's pitch unfit for play after the rains of recent days.

The Glenpark XI were able to play and made the most of that opportunity by defeating Glasgow Accies 3rd XI by 38 runs. Inam Khan was the star performer. His unbeaten 58 in a partnership of 117 runs with skipper Eddie Ahmad (50 not out) which led to a total of 167 for 3 was followed by the capture of 3 wickets for 17 as Accies were dismissed for 129.

For the second week in a row, midweek cricket for the senior teams has been wiped out by the weather. Following on from last night's cancellation of the Glenpark XI's Western Cup tie at Paisley against Meikleriggs, the 1st XI's McCulloch Cup match at Glenpark against Renfrew has now fallen foul of the rain. Oh well, better luck next week.

The 1st XI recovered their form on Saturday when they comfortably overcame Glasgow Accies at Glenpark by 8 wickets. Once again their two young Australians were the outstanding performers. Angus Tolhurst with 4 for 8 in his 10 overs and Connor Nowlan with 3 for 31 were instrumental in Accies being bowled out for 116 and both were undefeated with the bat, Nowlan with 68 and Tolhurst with 21 as that total was chased down in just under 33 overs. Mention should also be made of Harry Briggs with 20 runs and 3 catches behind the stumps, all off Nowlan's bowling. Peter Hempsey's weekly report details the team's return to form on a day when the sun shone on Glenpark.

The Glenpark XI were left disappointed on Saturday when their opponents Crow Road called off the fixture when they were unable to raise a team. What a waste of a glorious day for a game of cricket.

The 1st XI came up just short at Dumfries when, despite the warm and sunny weather, runs were somewhat at a premium. They batted first and Connor Nowlan made a positive start with 37. His dismissal led to a rush of wickets and at 58 for 8 all looked lost. But Sam Sanghera (28*) and Muhibullah Ahmadzai (14) put on 39 for the 9th wicket and an eventual total of 107 at least gave the bowlers something to defend. Dumfries struggled equally with the bat and when they were reduced to 73 for 6, a win looked quite possible. But the Dumfries lower-order rallied and saw their team to a 3-wicket victory. Peter Hempsey's weekly report details the events of a game where Greenock's batting frailties - six batsmen failed to score - were almost covered up by a fighting response by the bowlers.

The Glenpark XI recorded their first victory of the season when they easily overcame Stirling County 3rd XI, who were unable to field a full eleven, by 206 runs.

The 1st XI made a winning start to their league campaign with a comfortable 124 run victory over Hillhead at a sun-kissed Glenpark on Saturday. Well, OK, maybe not sun-kissed but at least it was dry. The team's two young Aussies were the main contributors to the win, Angus Tolhurst scoring 84 and taking 3 for 11 in his 10 overs while Connor Nowlan hit up a quickfire 79 and claimed a couple of victims. The home side had reached 226 for 9 in their allotted overs and needed just 32.1 overs to dismiss their opponents for just 102. Our correspondent, Peter Hempsey, provides a full report on what was a satisfying start to the league season.

The long journey north on Sunday to Aberdeen proved to be fruitless when the home side eased to victory over a less than full-strength 1st XI in the Scottish Cup. Angus Tolhurst was again in the runs, making 105 out of his side's 197, but the bowlers were unable to defend this total as Aberdeenshire reached their target for the loss of just 4 wickets in 30.4 overs to progress to the next round.

The Glenpark XI had a close encounter with the Bees at Bellahouston, eventually coming up just short of their opponents total of 134 by 11 runs.

The April monthly draw for the Glenpark Supporters Prize Draw (GSPD) was carried out on Saturday 27th April 2024. The four lucky winners were Alan Holms, Craig Lyons, Shailesh Prabhu and Mark Farrell. In addition, the ever-popular Club Secretary, Brian Papworth, scooped the Spring Jackpot prize - who writes this guff?.

At long last, the weather relented and allowed the 2024 Glenpark season to commence. Two pre-season friendlies were played, against Kelburne on Saturday and Renfrew on Sunday, resulting in one win and one loss. However, the matches were very much played as training exercises, indeed the Kelburne match was played as a 13-a-side encounter and captain Greg McDougall took the opportunity to give all his players the chance to bat and bowl. The results were really irrelevant. Our correspondent, Peter Hempsey, has produced his first report of the season to describe the action.

Saturday was probably the nicest day of the year so far, a perfect one for a game of cricket. Unfortunately not at Glenpark as the ravages of earlier in the week rendered the ground unfit for play and thus the second pre-season friendly of the year, this time against Hillhead, bit the dust. We do now seem to be in for a reasonable spell of weather and should this last to next weekend, then surely we will see some play. Time will tell.

The 2024 season starts this Saturday, 13th April, when West of Scotland will be the visitors for the usual pre-season friendly.

But surprise, surprise, the game has already been called off as Glenpark is quite unable to host the game due to the incessant rain that seems to have fallen unceasingly since the end of the previous season. And even at this early stage, next week's fixture with Hillhead must be in doubt, given that there is just no sign of a dry spell in the forecast. It is really quite depressing.

The March monthly draw for the Glenpark Supporters Prize Draw (GSPD) was carried out on Saturday 30th March 2024. The four lucky winners were Kevin Flack, John McGachy, Isobel Robinson and Craig Lyons.

The 1st XI averages have now been calculated and can be found at this link. The cumulative records for the Club stretching back to 1931 have also been updated.

The 2023 Awards Evening was held on Saturday 26th August when the clubhouse was packed to see a number of awards handed out to players and supporters. Gregor Chambers was chosen as the Players 1st Player of the Year while Emily Norris was accorded the same honour for the Glenpark XI. Sam Sanghera was named the Club Player of the Year in recognition of his whole-hearted enthusiasm over the season.

In 2020, when no cricket was played due to the Covid-19 outbreak, a number of articles relating to the history of the Club were published on the website. These can be read via this link.

The Club records have been updated again, this time to cover the years from 1931 to 1937. Each year that has been added to the archives has a summary of all games played by the 1st XI together with full averages, selected scorecards and a short review of the season. The cumulative records of the Club have also similarly been updated.

This new update covers the years when the Club's professional was Reg Hollingdale, from Sussex, who can reasonably be claimed to be one of the best professionals employed by the Club. During this time, the Club won the Western Union title on two occasions while there were any number of memorable games, not least the time when Jack Hobbs played at Glenpark in June 1935. 1937, though it did not result in title or cup success, was a year when there were some outstanding personal performances, such as John Kerr hitting two centuries in four days at the age of 52.

As with previous updates, there a number of caveats that need to be kept in mind and these are detailed in this brief article.

Work will now start on the next update which is likely to cover the years from 1925 to 1930.
