Over a dozen state representatives have endorsed Delaware Rep. Bryon Short's Congressional bid.

Short's campaign announced Tuesday morning that the Highland Woods Democrat secured endorsements from both high-ranking officials within the Democratic caucus, such as House Speaker Pete Schwartzkopf, D-Rehoboth Beach, and from progressives like Rep. John Kowalko, D-Newark.

“I am truly honored to have the endorsement of these dedicated public servants,” Short said in a written statement. “Together, we have worked tirelessly to serve Delawareans, and it is humbling to have such an outpouring of support so early in our campaign.”

Among those endorsing Short were: Rep. Gerald Brady, D-Wilmington, Rep. Melanie George Smith, D-Bear, Debra Heffernan, D-Brandywine Hundred South, Rep. Quinn Johnson, D-Middletown, Rep. Sean Matthews, D-Talleyville, Rep. Earl Jaques, D-Glasgow, Rep. Stephanie T. Bolden, D-Wilmington, Rep. Bill Carson, D-Smyrna, Rep. Trey Paradee, D-Cheswold, and Rep. Sean Lynn, D-Dover.

Short announced his campaign for Delaware's lone congressional seat last week. He faces state Sen. Bryan Townsend, D-Newark, in a primary battle for Congressman John Carney's seat.

Townsend received an endorsement last week from fellow state Sen. Karen Peterson, D-Newport, and Dr. Donald Morton, a civil rights leader in Wilmington.

The winner of the primary faces Republican Hans Reigle, the former Kent County GOP chairman and Wyoming mayor. Reigle began campaigning earlier this year, but is officially launching his candidacy on Wednesday in Dover.
