Florida boasts 15 companies large enough to make 2013 Fortune 500

Fifteen Florida-based companies appear on the 2013 Fortune 500 list of the nation's biggest companies with publicly disclosed revenues. The largest Florida company, ranked 74th, is World Fuel Services in Miami. The largest Tampa Bay area companies are Lakeland's Publix Super Markets, Clearwater's Tech Data Corp., St. Petersburg's Jabil Circuit and Tampa's WellCare Health Plans. Last year, Florida had 16 companies in the Fortune 500 but lost Winn-Dixie when it was acquired by a business in South Carolina But Florida will soon gain a new Fortune 500 company with Tuesday's announced headquarters relocation of car rental giant Hertz Corp. to Estero in Lee County from New Jersey. Hertz ranks No. 293 on this year's list.
