1. The occurrence of spheroidal osmiophilic globules as a characteristic chloroplast
component and variations in their size (10–500 Å) and osmiophilia are illustrated in electron-
micrographs. In Vicia faba L. small, dense globules were more characteristic of young
chloroplasts and larger ones, often less osmiophilic, of older chloroplasts. 2. 2. A method is
