Site Status Update 6/24 6:11 PM EST

What a week.

We’re aware of a couple outstanding issues we’re still investigating.

First, some people report that as they begin typing their email address or password, they are immediately shown an error message before they can even finish typing. If this is happening to you, please let us know and include what device and what browser you are using when that happens.

Second, there are a couple dozen users who at some point in the recent past attempted to change their email address, but the changes were not synched in our database correctly, which is preventing users from logging in. We’re aware of this and looking for a fix.

Third, some people seem unable to use the Magic Link or the password reset email links. Every time they click the link, it says expired. We believe this has to do with security measures in place to scan the links to make sure they are safe, which inadvertently renders the link expired. If this is happening to you, please let us know. If you could include any information about your internet or email provider, that would be helpful

Now for the fixes.

We identified two important issues today. First, there was a bug that was preventing a subset of users from using their existing passwords. This mainly affected users who hadn’t logged in since Wednesday June 19th. This has been fixed.

Second, we identified a bug with the password reset process. This issue has also been fixed.

We greatly appreciate your patience and understanding while we work with the subset of users who are having issues logging in.

Sign In Related Issues

The vast majority of people are able to sign in without issue. Several users were not receiving a Magic Link sign in email or Password Reset email because they had previously marked emails from talkingpointsmemo dot com as spam. If you are not receiving emails from TPM, you may want to ensure that our domain is whitelisted in your email service provider (gmail, yahoo, etc). If this still doesn’t work, please let us know.

Additionally some users have been confused by the sign in process. Using the Magic Link is the same as using your email and password — you will remain logged in. You will not be required to sign in over and over again.

Signing in with your email or username plus a password is still supported. Click on the “sign in with password” button.

Some users are able to sign in using their credentials on one device, but not another — so for example, can sign in on their phone but not desktop — if this is the case, please try deleting cookies and your cache, and then try logging on.

Many users have experienced an issue where the credentials stored in their browser or operating system are not working properly when they try to sign in. In this case, the best path forward is to request a new password.

Some users were reporting getting stuck in a loop in which they were asked to sign in over and over again after signing in. We’ve deployed a change to fix this. However, if this is still happening to you please let us know.

The Hive Update 6/17

Update 7:03 PM EST - We identified and fixed an issue affecting some members’ ability to access the Hive. Comments have been restored on all articles at this time.

Comments and The Hive should be back up and running. If you’re still having trouble accessing them, please clear your browser cookies.

The Hive and Sign-In Issues

At this time, we are aware as a result of the site maintenance that occurred over the weekend (June 15-16) that members are unable to access The Hive at this time, comments, and are experiencing trouble signing in.

If you are having trouble signing in with your username and password, we recommend using the ‘Sign In With Email Address’ option for the time being.

When using the 'Sign In With Email Address’ option please make sure you are using the email address used for your TPM membership account. If you do not you will be signed into a basic, non-membership account.

Please do not hesitate to reach out to siteissues@talkingpointsmemo.com with any questions or bug reports.

Site Maintenance Update 6/17

Hi everyone,

A quick update on this weekend’s site maintenance, the new sign-in system is up and running. We really appreciate your patience with us. We’re still working to get the comments widget on the story pages back up and running. That should be up soon. We are also aware that members are currently unable to access The Hive. Our developers are looking into this. If you run into any trouble using the new sign-in system please do not hesitate to reach out to us at siteissues@talkingpointsmemo.com

Thanks again for your patience.

Site Maintenance: 6/14- 6/15

Hi everyone,

This weekend we’re going to be doing some very important site maintenance to upgrade our membership system. The site will remain online and our staff will continue to publish, so if there’s any breaking news, you can still count on TPM. However, while this work is going on, you will be unable to log into your account, comment, or access The Hive. Archived member-only content will also be inaccessible.

The work will begin early Saturday morning and may extend into Sunday. We’re sorry for the inconvenience, but this work is critical to the stability and security of the site. Suffice to say it’s extremely important and we thank you for your patience during this process.
