Fred Gordin INSIGHT Memorial Fund

The Fred Gordin INSIGHT Memorial Fund was originally established to recognize research and education and Dr. Gordin's commitment to better treatment and management of HIV disease. The fund was established to support projects to benefit INSIGHT study participants, the INSIGHT Community Advisory Board (CAB) and/or other community research groups. INSIGHTs scope has now expanded to include pandemic respiratory diseases. INSIGHT encourages using the Fund for community-based research and education projects involving all INSIGHT research, including the STRIVE research platform.

The INSIGHT CAB (now known as the INSIGHT STRIVE CAB) is seeking proposals for innovative projects that enhance and/or expand INSIGHT's community work, including study-specific education, connecting with other disease-area community groups, or documenting the value of including community in study design and implementation.

INSIGHT encourages community engagement and anticipates that requests for funding may be creative, unique and novel in concept, development, and presentation. The INSIGHT STRIVE CAB will work with applicants to answer questions and suggest changes to proposals as needed.

Anyone affiliated with INSIGHT is invited to propose a project. Target applicants are INSIGHT sites, ICCs/SCCs and community groups affiliated with INSIGHT. Applications will be reviewed and awarded by the INSIGHT STRIVE CAB. Award amounts are determined by the budget and proposal. Funds may not be used for administrative indirect costs or personal travel.

Project outcomes will be made available to the INSIGHT group (and others if applicable). The Fred Gordin INSIGHT Memorial Fund is small in monetary value, and we are looking to fund small but valuable projects to the community research community.

About Fred Gordin

Fred M. Gordin MD, MACP, FIDSA was Chief of the Infectious Diseases Section at the VA Medical Center in Washington, DC, where he provided astute clinical care for HIV patients. He was a Professor of Medicine and a mentor at George Washington University. Dr. Gordin was an avid champion for improving the treatment of HIV, tuberculosis and non-tuberculous mycobacterial infections through research. Most importantly, he believed in meaningful community engagement among those who were most affected by their disease; he actively promoted these voices and invited them to the research table to participate. This fund will ensure that Dr. Gordin's legacy is recognized for years to come.
