Savannah
March 20th 1817.
Sir,
I have taken a liberty (which as my motive is good, I hope you will excuse) of addressing you for the purpose of signifying to you my disposition to assist in the raising of a force in the vicinity of the St: Mary's River, for the purpose of reducing the Indians, who have lately been guilty of invading our Frontier, to a peaceable and [unclear text: submissive ] state -- I have been induced from a conversation which I have recently had with [unclear text: Dr. ] Daniell, to believe that an object of this nature may at this moment be in contemplation with the Executive. It is under this impression that I take the liberty of offering my services -- I hope it will not be deemed impertinent or intrusive, that I should state to your Excellency that I have every reason to believe that a sufficient number of volunteers could be immediately, procured in this District. --

I have the honor to be Sir,
Yr [Your] Most obt: St: [Obedient Servant]
[Signed] Edwd F Tattnall
