The PHIL_OS project (2021–2025) aims to develop an empirically grounded philosophy of Open Science [OS] that emphasises the diversity of research environments around the world and articulates the conditions under which OS can leverage such diversity to promote good research practice.

Emma Cavazzoni will give a talk “Sharing Data, Sharing Technologies: Data-Technology Communities in Haly.Id”, at the Forum on Philosophy, Engineering, and Technology (fPET), which takes place 17–19 September at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology.
On 9–12 September, Emma Cavazzoni will be a participant at the 7th European Advanced School in the Philosophy of the Life Sciences (EASPLS), on the theme of 'Evidence in Biology and Medicine'. This summer school takes place at the Konrad Lorenz Institute for Evolution and Cognition Research (KLI) near Vienna, Austria.
Sabina Leonelli will be the Kluge Chair in Technology and Society, at the US Library of Congress from 1 May to 31 July 2024, and will therefore be temporarily based in Washington to work on “Openness, Democracy and Technologies of Evidence”.
Our postdoc Rose Trappes has moved to the University of Bergen in Norway, where she will do a postdoc exploring citizen science and its implications for epistemic diversity in ecology.

The Royal Society report for which Sabina Leonelli worked as a member of the Working Group, “Science in the Age of AI”, is now available. It makes key recommendations on the future development and deployment of AI, including how it should be adapted to diverse research environments and levels of openness.

Sabina Leonelli held a keynote presentation “Human-Centric Open Science” at the First Tri-partite meeting of the European Open Science Cloud (EOSC) under the Belgian EU presidency (Brussels, 16 April 2024). The EOSC newspage summarized Sabina’ talk in its report, calling it thought-provoking.
Paola Castaño and Sabina Leonelli are convening two Sessions on Interrogating Openness and Equity in the Data-Centric Life Sciences in the upcoming joint meeting of the European Association for the Study of Science and Technology (EASST) and the Society for Social Studies of Science (4S) (Amsterdam, 16–19 July 2024).
Sabina co-organised the Conference “Understanding Life in a Changing Planet” on 17–19 April 2024. This celebration of 20+2 years of Egenis, on the occasion of John Dupré’s retirement, brought philosophers from over the world to Exeter.
